Assignment

Watch an artificial intelligence movie or television show and critique it based on the principles of artificial intelligence discussed in the class and presented in your texts. Examples of artificial intelligence in movies and television include, but are not limited to:

·       2001 and 2010

·       AI: Artificial Intelligence

·       I, Robot

·       Red Planet

·       The Bicentennial Man

·       Colossus, the Forbin Project

·       The Terminator series

·       The Star Trek series

·       The Star Wars series

·       The Buck Rogers in the 25th Century series

·       The Matrix Series

Issues

Your essay should provide a short review of the movie, discuss why you selected it, and address (at a minimum) the following questions:

·       What kind of artificial intelligence is depicted?

·       Are the capabilities of that AI realistic?

·       Is the AI any different than a man in a box or funny suit? One way of thinking about this question:

·         What superhuman capabilities does the AI have?

·         What capabilities does the AI have that are markedly inferior to humans?

·         What features of the AI are just different from humans?

·       Does the film depict a positive or negative attitude towards AI?

You may go beyond these issues as you see fit.
